Learning Hub

The Library Learning Centre is where the children locate, evaluate and use information efficiently and effectively. It assists with the development of information literacy skills, which prepares the students for lifelong learning.

Our Learning Hub is innovative in design. It feels very different to our other classrooms. The Learning Hub is a dynamic part of our school. It is a space that is welcoming, aesthetically appealing and functional in its design. There are spaces for independent and small group teaching and learning activities, space for class and other collaborative groupings. Our Learning Hub is also used for staff and parent meetings, workshops; for social activities and communal gatherings.

Students at St James' attend weekly library lessons with the teacher librarian. Students are introduced to literature and work on English-based learning activities, integrating technology and print mediums. Students can borrow fiction and non-fiction texts from the extensive range provided. Resources are updated and purchased regularly. Book Week is celebrated each year and a Book Fair is held for families to purchase personal copies of their children's favourite books. These sales assist us to purchase more resources for the library. A Book Week character parade and story presentation are held bi-annually. Students from Kindergarten to Year 4 dress as their favourite book character, while students in Years 5 and 6 perform scenes from short-listed books for everyone's enjoyment at the Book Week assembly.
